Asia-wide surveillance study on HAP/VAP
Title A prospective multinational surveillance of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in adults in Asian countries: etiology, clinical outcome, and impact of antimicrobial resistance
Principle Investigator Dr. Jae-Hoon Song (Korea)
Study Period Mar 2008 ~ Nov 2009
Participating
Countries/Areas (Centers)
Korea, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand (89 centers)
Summary This study provided a comprehensive analysis regarding bacterial pathogens and clinical characteristics of HAP and VAP among adults in Asian countries. Acinetobacter spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were the most frequent respiratory isolates from adults with HAP or VAP in Asian countries. Major respiratory isolates from HAP or VAP in Asian countries showed very high resistance rates to major antimicrobial agents.
