The
Asian Bacterial Bank (ABB), the
first clinical microorganism collection
center in the Asian region, is
one of key elements in the ARFID
along with ANSORP and IDRI.
ABB was established in June 1999
and has been collecting the clinical
isolates of bacterial pathogens
from ANSORP investigators in Asia
since then. As of 2006, a total
of 30,000 isolates of important
bacterial pathogens have been
collected from 14 countries and
preserved. Through continuous
collection and preservation of
clinical isolates, ABB will be
a representative research resource
bank on pathogenic microorganisms
in Asian region.
ABB observes the UN Model Regulations,
the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations,
the WHO Laboratory Biosafety Manual
and other applicable regulations.
According to those international
regulations, ABB distributes the
collected bacterial isolates to
investigators in Asian countries.
ABB serves the improvement of
basic research of microbiology,
infectious diseases, and antimicrobial
resistances in Asia.
